Checkin In...

Hey, Yall! I've been told it's time for an update, so here we go. Hope everyone is havin a groovy summer so far. All good here, chillin by the pool most days like a lizard on a hot rock. Been feeling pretty good, too. Check up later this week with the transplant docs and the pulmonologist. Not expecting anything drastic as far as changes go; reckon they just wanna see my smilin face.

I was browsing through my CD's the other day. I started out meaning to get them all in order, which they pretty much already were, but I ran across a few I'd let slip away for a time. Mostly older 70's stuff, some 80's, but all great tunes. Reminded me of being back in high school. Looonnnnnng time ago. Hell, I graduated in 81, so that's what...26 years ago! That's scary! Seems not that long ago I could have said I didn't even exist 26 years ago. I'm 44 now. I remember when I used to watch my parents in the evenings. After dinner, dishes, all that, I'd be all energized, ready to go out and do whatever. They'd head for the back patio, or out to float in the pool, sit outside, nothing that required much physical or mental activity. I always swore to myself that "that'll never be me". Well, hell, y'all. Guess what!? Turns out the ol' apple doesn't fall too far from the tree. That little thing called energy tends to favor the younger set, or so it would seem. Now, I do get a burst now and then; not like I sit there all the time not moving, in fact I think I'm just about as active now as I was before I got sick. I may have lost a little of my edge, but I'm by no means the dull knife in the drawer. I do miss the days when it was go, go, go! But it isn't all no, no, no! Not by a long shot.

Just saw an ad on TV for something called The Fish Pen! A telescoping fishing rod that collapses down to the size of an ink pen. Good Lord. Just when ya think you have everything you could possibly need, along comes the Fish Pen!!! Wonder how many of those they'll sell?

I reckon that's all for me for this trip. Y'all have fun, take care of each other and be safe.

Stop It!

Hey, Y'all! Long time. Sorry, had some stuff goin on...again. All groovy now, though. I wrote an entry or two or so ago about our puppy, Polly. Well. Polly is still with us...still as cute as she can be...personality is really blossoming, all that stuff. She does have one little annoying habit. Polly likes to stare. For rather long periods of time. I'm talkin the no-blinking-eyes-gotta-be-dryin-out kinda stare. Good God. That just makes me crazy! I'll take her out, we walk around for an hour or so, come back in, get her leash off, sit down, look over...guess who? Yup. Feed her...she'll eat a bit, then it's right back to the stare down. I'll pick her up and she'll crash out in my lap or on the couch next to me and I just know she's dreamin about staring. I know it.

Had another EGD on Wednesday. That's where they hit me over the head with that chemical sledge hammer and peek down my neck. Nothing new, hell, they ought to have the damned thing memorized by now, but even docs need a diversion, so what the heck. Anyway, everything was where it was supposed to be and I got to spend a day thinkin I was Batman. Win/Win.

No big plans for the weekend so far. I'd like to see that movie Mr. Brooks with Kevin Costner and William Hurt. Looks pretty good, but I swear every time I pick a movie it SUCKS. The girlies are with me on this one though, so we can share the blame if it does tank. All I need is 3 females staring me down. I'm not sure, but I think the combined power of all 3 of em at once would probably make my hair catch fire...at the very least.

That's it from this end for now. Y'all have a great weekend! Take care of each other and be safe.

Enuff Is Enuff

To Whom it May Concern

I am hereby officially tendering my resignation as a grown-up. I have decided I would like to accept the responsibilities of an 8 year old again.

I want to go to McDonald's and think it's a four-star restaurant.
I want to sail sticks across a big mud puddle and make a sidewalk with rocks.
I want to think M&M's are better than money cuz you can eat them.
I want to chill under a big oak tree and make a lemonade stand with my friends.
I want to return to a time when life was simple, when all you knew were colors, nursery rhymes and times tables.
Take me back to a time when I knew what I knew and that was good, didn't know what I didn't know and didn't care.
I want to be blissfully unaware of all the things that make you worried or upset.
I want to think the world is fair, that everyone is honest and good.
I want to believe that anything really is possible.
Make me oblivious to why the car runs, just happy that it does every time Dad turns the key.
I want to be overly excited by butterflies coming up close, to fireworks at night and the smell of hot dogs on the grill.
I don't want my day to consist of computer crashes, mountains of paperwork, or wondering how to survive with more days in the month than there is money in the bank.
While you're at it, you can keep the gossiping neighbors, doctor's bills, illness, and the loss of loved ones.
I want to believe in the power of smiles, that a hug really can make it all better, peace, our imaginations, and making angels in the snow.

So, here's my checkbook, my car keys, my credit card bills, and 401K statements.
I officially resign from adulthood.
If you feel the need to discuss this further, you'll have to catch me first, cuz......

TAG!!! YOU'RE IT!!!!!!

Y'all be safe.

The Sky Is Falling!!

Hey There, Y'all! Hope things are groovy your way. No complaints here. Getting used to having a puppy underfoot--literally!! Potty training is going well. Just a few "uh-oh's" but it happens. She's really growing, too. Well, as much as a little itty bitty thing like her can grow. First trip to the vet was 2 days after we got her. She weighed 3 lbs. Took her back for shots and heartworm stuff and she's up to 5 lbs. Vet says she's healthy and I can attest to the fact that she's very active. Still at the teething stage, so she goes through those little rawhide chew strips like crazy. She has also successfully hunted, stalked and taken down an old pair of slippers I had. Jeez! Sounds like she's got a grizzly bear when she really gets after those old things. Luckily, so far, she hasn't done any destructive chewing like couch cushions, table legs, human feet. All those things pups tend to gravitate toward.

Been a rainy day today. Tornados over in Ft. Worth and the whole system is moving right toward Dallas, so we're all just hunkered down seeing what's gonna happen. Reports of areas getting up to 7 inches of rain, so lots of flash flooding. That's one down side of the Dallas/Ft. Worth area--living right in the middle of a river basin. No reports of any injuries as of yet and obviously everyone is hoping it stays that way. The majority of flash flood injuries/fatalities occur when people try to drive under flooded out underpasses or other low-lying areas. I guess they think that their car/truck/whatever can handle it, but next thing ya know there they are on the 10:00 news standing on top of their car. Go figure.

Still waiting to see where I am on the transplant list. All the docs that are treating me have to make their final report clearing me for surgery and forward it to the transplant team. I sure don't mind waiting since I know I'm gonna get on the list. Plus, there are a whole bunch of people out there that are in really bad shape. That's gotta be a tough decision to have to make. especially when it gets close to pucker time--you're not doing great, maybe second or third on the list, then you get bumped for some reason. That's when it'll get scary to me. Even though what I've gone through thus far has been kinda crappy, there's gonna come a time when I'm in that seat. I sure can't complain about too much, though. My family, my friends, you guys here on OD, have all been the best support base I can imagine! Now, if I can get someone to go through the surgery for me.......any takers?

That's about it from here for now. Y'all take care of each other. Be safe.

Puppy Pics

Hey, Y'all...Just poppin on and off to post a couple of pics of the dawg. She's growing real fast like puppies tend to do. Just about have her broken of chewing things that aren't her toys, things like shoes, my fingers and face, stuff like that. Potty training is a breeze. I take her out several times throughout the day and we'll all walk her at night. Absolutely NO doggy purse. She's not a bling dog, but she thinks she is. Thinks she's just ferociousuntil whatever she's raising hell with barks back or makes a loud noise. Then she about knocks me down trying to hide behind me legs or climb me like a monkey on a stick.

Here are a few pics of her. She's off to the groomer on Saturday. Like all younguns, I just brushed her about 3 minutes before I took this, and it took her no time at all to get all frazzled looking. Kids, right?

That's all for now. I'll get some shots on here after she gets all prettied up this weekend. Y'all take care of each other and be safe. Oh yeah...watch your step...she's good, but accidents do happen.
